Union County is home to writers, artists, musicians, and photographers. Artists of all types find creative inspiration from our beautiful mountain scenery and four distinct seasons. Arts enthusiasts will find Union County is an area that revels in, fosters and celebrates its cultural heritage and creative community. Many of our artists and crafts-people show and sell their creations in Blairsville studios and galleries or at the many festivals we have, such as the annual Sorghum Festival.
Whether you visit a gallery exhibition at the Young Harris College Student Art Gallery, attend a fundraiser for the local library, take a dance class at the John C. Campbell Folk School, see a riveting drama on the Young Harris College stage, or catch one of the many free concerts around Blairsville, you will find a sense of relaxed refinement among our cultural community.

Byron Herbert Reece, proclaimed by the state Legislature “Georgia’s Appalachian Poet/Novelist” spent most of the 40-plus years of his life, laboring as a subsistence farmer on his family’s homestead. His love of literature and gift for writing led to the publication of four volumes of poetry and two novels, all of which received national critical acclaim. The Farm and Heritage Center seek to acknowledge and honor both his literary legacy and his life in Southern Appalachia.
Pictured above is the Welcome Center of the Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center. There are brochures available in the Welcome Center that will guide visitors through a tour of the various exhibits. Docent-led tours will be available by reservation to large groups, such as school children and tour buses for a fee.
