Q.
How successful was Butternut Creek Arts Festival this past weekend.?
A. Almost too successful. It was the largest crowd ever and
just about overwhelmed Meeks Park. No one was prepared for
the large numbers. They had over 70 artisans booths located
along cool Butternut Creek and several thousand in attendance. All
parking lots were completely full. The prices were reasonable
and people were carrying out arm loads of arts and crafts. We
really appreciate High Country Artisans, Inc. for putting together
this festival year after year. It is really an asset to our community.
Q. How was the first Saturday
of the new “farmers
market”?
A. It exceeded everyone’s expectations. It
is still early in the season, but the Brown
Brothers Beans (Nate,
Age 6 and RJ, Age 10) were the hit with their 6 bushels of half
runner green beans they and their family picked (5 hrs) and sold
out of by 8:30. Corn
and honey were other great hits. All of the fresh vegetables
sold out early in the morning and a whole pickup load of corn sold
out a dozen ears at a time. If you missed it this week, it
will be held at the new Union County Courthouse every Saturday thru September
from 7:00 till 12:00.
If you have questions or need details
call the Commissioner’s
office at 706-439-6000. Fresh, out of the garden, is what makes
a farmers market so unique. So if you have extra products from
your garden and want to make some money and provide a service to
others, come out next Saturday.
Q. What kind of construction
is going on along Hwy 515 W in front of the Methodist Church.
A. This is a very good safety project
that will expand the length of all central turning lanes and some
decel lanes all along Hwy 515 in Union County. Every intersection
will be improved over the next few months. Yes, it will affect
traffic some, but in the end, it will be worth the wait. We are
especially excited that the west bound turn lane entering Meeks
Park will be expanded. Currently, the turn lane can only hold about
5 vehicles and the new turn lane should be able to hold 20 vehicles. There
should also be some major changes at Kiutuestia Creek Rd (Also
known as K Road and also known as Cow-gis-ki Cr. Rd.
