About:

Union County Fire Department is responsible for fire protection, prevention, and emergency services within the borders of Union County and the City of Blairsville. The department also serves as the staff and operational members of the Emergency Management Agency of Union County. The department is a combination department consisting of 12 stations. Station 1 is the Headquarters station and is centrally located near the City of Blairsville. The other stations are strategically located throughout the county.

The members of the department include the career staff of 16 firefighters and officers. The department operates four firefighters and an officer each shift at Station 1.  It also has a firefighter stationed in Suches M-F from 08:00 to 16:00. The administration staff includes one administrative assistant, one EMA staff person, one Battalion Chief, and the Fire Chief.  The volunteers consist of 85 firefighters and officers who operate, manage, and respond from the volunteer stations. The department responds to all types of emergencies and averages 2,400 calls per year.

The ISO Rating for the county is a class 4/4Y. Residence within 5 miles of one of these stations and 1,000 feet of an approved water source are rated 4.  Residence within 5 miles of one of these stations but further than 1,000 feet of an approve water source are rated 4Y.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - AGENDA

A Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 5:00pm in the Union County Courthouse, 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, Georgia.

The purpose of this hearing will be for Union County to provide information and answer questions regarding the proposed revisions of the Union County Code of Ordinances pertaining to Chapter 10, Article III, Section
10-80 addressing Temporary Special Event Licenses for the sale of alcohol, Chapter 38, Article III, Section 38-51 addressing Tattoo and Body Piercing Establishments and the proposed Commercial Firing Range Facilities Ordinance.

At the County Meeting scheduled for October 19, 2023 at 6:00pm, Union County Government will be adopting the proposed Ordinance for Cryptocurrency and Data Mining.

The final draft of this Ordinance will be available on the website and hard copies will be available in the Union County Commissioner’s Office and with the Union County Clerk of Superior Court on
Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
