Georgia Weapons Carry License

The Probate Court of Union County issues Georgia Weapons Carry Licenses to all qualified persons who are residents of Union County, Georgia.

Paper applications are located outside the office of the Probate Court or
ONLINE APPLICATION click here
: Applicants may submit an online application.  Within two weeks, applicants must come to the Probate Court to complete the application process.  Please follow directions as indicated on the online application and indicated below.

Requirements for NEW Weapons Carry License Applications:

  • Must be 21 years of age (if under 21, must provide proof of completion of basic training and proof of active service or an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States)
  • Must be a resident of Union County, GA
  • Must submit a picture identification including the physical address (if PO Box – Must bring proof of physical address)
  • Must submit to a fingerprint based criminal background check within 5 business days before any license is issued.  If you have questions regarding the various prohibitions for Weapons Carry licenses, you may refer to OCGA 16-11-129(b).  Fingerprinting is available at Union County Jail on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00AM-4:00PM and Tuesday from 9:00AM-12:00PM.
  • Fees: $78.25 – Cash, local checks or Money Orders and/or Visa or MasterCard.
  • The license, when approved, is valid for five years.

Requirements for RENEWAL Weapons Carry License Applications:

  • May renew 90 days prior to expiration of current license or within 30 days after expiration
  • Must be a resident of Union County, GA
  • Must submit a picture identification including the physical address (if PO Box – Must bring proof of physical address)
  • Fees: $30.00 – Cash, local checks or money orders or VISA or Mastercard
  • The license, when approved, is valid for five years.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - AGENDA

A Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 5:00pm in the Union County Courthouse, 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, Georgia.

The purpose of this hearing will be for Union County to provide information and answer questions regarding the proposed revisions of the Union County Code of Ordinances pertaining to Chapter 10, Article III, Section
10-80 addressing Temporary Special Event Licenses for the sale of alcohol, Chapter 38, Article III, Section 38-51 addressing Tattoo and Body Piercing Establishments and the proposed Commercial Firing Range Facilities Ordinance.

At the County Meeting scheduled for October 19, 2023 at 6:00pm, Union County Government will be adopting the proposed Ordinance for Cryptocurrency and Data Mining.

The final draft of this Ordinance will be available on the website and hard copies will be available in the Union County Commissioner’s Office and with the Union County Clerk of Superior Court on
Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
