Transfer Station Commercial side for haulers – hours:

Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m. to noon, Closed Sundays and holidays.

The price per ton is $57/ton, and the minimum charge to cross the scales is $20 for up to 700 pounds.

The Transfer Station is owned and operated by the Union County Government. The station currently accepts bagged trash and recyclables from residential users. This is not a landfill. All solid waste is transported to a landfill located elsewhere in Georgia.

County Ordinance O-2000-004 states that all trucks hauling solid waste must be suitably enclosed or covered to prevent littering. Violators of this ordinance are subject to the citation and shall be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance.


  • Individual household trash rate: up to 30 gallon bags, $1.50 per bag
  • Individual household trash rate: over 30 gallon bags, $1.75 per bag

No Yard Waste is accepted

There is no charge for the following recyclables:

  • Paper Mixed, computer, magazines and newsprint
  • Paper Board Cereal boxes, food container, etc. (No pizza boxes)
  • Cardboard Packing boxes (please break down)
  • Automotive Batteries
  • White Goods Appliances (excluding air conditioners and refrigerators)(Not available for commercial appliance dealers)
  • Bulk Metal Tin roofing, metal desks, cabinets, etc.

#1 Plastics PETE (Polyethylene Terephathalate)

  • soft drink bottles
  • mineral water bottles
  • fruit juice bottles
  • cooking oil containers

#2 Plastics HDPE (high-density polyethylene)

  • milk jugs
  • cleaning containers
  • laundry detergent containers
  • bleach containers
  • shampoo containers

#3 Cardboard (Old Corrugated Containers “OCC”)

  • used boxes (unwaxed with ruffled or corrugated inner liner)
    • pizza boxes with no leftover food IS acceptable
  • No Styrofoam

#4 Mixed Paper

Mills use mixed paper to produce paperboard and tissue as a secondary fiber in the production of new paper, or as a raw material in non-paper product such as gypsum wallboard, chipboard, roofing felt, cellulose insulation, and molded pulp products such as egg cartons.  Mixed paper is a broad category that often includes items such as:

  • discarded mail
  • telephone books
  • books
  • paperboard
  • magazines
  • catalogs

All containers just be clean and paper labels removed.

Notice #1: A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Union County Courthouse, 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, Georgia.

The purpose of this hearing will be for Union County to provide information and answer questions regarding the proposed revisions to Chapter 18, Section 18-105 of the Union County Code of Ordinances. This section is referred to as the construction board of adjustment and appeals.

The purpose of this meeting will be to conduct the 2nd Reading of the revisions to Chapter 18, Section 18-105, Construction board of adjustments and appeals.

No other business will be conducted.
