Hunter-England Cabin

The Hunter-England Cabin was built by John Hunter between 1832-1834 in the Choestoe area of Union County.  The cabin, said to be the oldest dwelling in Union County, was originally built of poplar logs.  As was typical of the time, the cabin had wooden shutters over the window openings and a root cellar dug beneath the floor.   Over the years, weather boarding was added over the logs and glass windows were installed.  After John Hunter’s death in 1848, his daughter Harriet and her husband Daniel England lived in the cabin.  This is how the house got the name: Hunter-England Cabin.

The cabin has been reconstructed at the Union County Farmers Market located at 148 Old Smokey Rd in Blairsville.

A Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Union County Fine Arts Center located at 926 Panther Overlook, Blairsville, GA.
The purpose of the hearing will be to provide information and answer questions concerning the proposed Target Range to be located on Highway 180 in Union County.
