Hunter-England Cabin

The Hunter-England Cabin was built by John Hunter between 1832-1834 in the Choestoe area of Union County.  The cabin, said to be the oldest dwelling in Union County, was originally built of poplar logs.  As was typical of the time, the cabin had wooden shutters over the window openings and a root cellar dug beneath the floor.   Over the years, weather boarding was added over the logs and glass windows were installed.  After John Hunter’s death in 1848, his daughter Harriet and her husband Daniel England lived in the cabin.  This is how the house got the name: Hunter-England Cabin.

The cabin has been reconstructed at the Union County Farmers Market located at 148 Old Smokey Rd in Blairsville.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the Union County Courthouse, 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, Georgia

The purpose of this hearing will be for Union County to provide information and answer questions regarding transferring surplus property to the Union County Development Authority. This is the property on Young Harris Street in the City of Blairsville referred to as the Old Fort Sorghum Property. NOTICE OF CALLED MEETING

There will be a CALLED MEETING of the Union County Commission on Friday, December 27, 2019
at 4:30 p.m. located at 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, Georgia in Courtroom A. The purpose of this meeting will be to approve a Resolution to adopt the 2020 Budget and to approve a Resolution to transfer the Old Fort Sorghum Property to the Union County Development Authority .
